Brian J. Pohl is co-owner and pre-visualisation supervisor of Persistence of Vision Digital Entertainment (P.O.V.). He has served as the previsualization lead/supervisor on I,Robot and Stealth at Digital Domain. Brian is trained and experienced in a number of 3D animation and compositing packages and during his spare time, occasionally teaches classes on Maya and previsualization at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Los Angeles.

Brian has recently worked as a rough layout technical director on Sony Pictures Animation's Open Season, where his role included rough layout blocking, camera animation, set dressing and designing complete sequences with directors Jill Culton (Pixar), Roger Allers (Disney), and Anthony Stacchi (Wild Brain Inc).

During the early 90's, Brian began his pursuit of digital animation and visual effects after completing his degree in Broadcast Design and serving several years as an officer in the United States Army. Once his military service obligation was completed, Brian formed a small design firm in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he provided his clients with a number of services, which included graphic design and broadcast animation. Intent on furthering his knowledge and proficiency in these rapidly advancing fields, Brian moved to Los Angeles to study a newly emerging 3D animation package called Maya.

While in Los Angeles, Brian obtained a position on a previs project for the film, Behind Enemy Lines. This opportunity expanded when the film’s previs supervisor, David Dozoretz, hired Brian to be apart of the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones previs and design team up at Skywalker ranch. From there, Brian was transferred to Industrial Light and Magic where he worked as a previs artist on a number of films that include, K19: The Widowmaker, Men in Black II, The Hulk, Terminator 3, Van Helsing and THX-1138 Special Edition. Brian's other credits include The Island, Eragon, Open Season and Journey 3-D .

"I think the best aspect really boils down to the experience of the instructor. Having someone with the background that Brian has allowed him to deal with previsualization techniques from a perspective that was I think invaluable for people whatever their level of experience. He's able to present material in a very clear and organized fashion. I liked the fact that he dealt equally with both the technical aspects of the pipeline as well as the creative aspects of cinematography and direction."
John Helliker, Student, Previsualisation & Cinematography I
